ST. LOUIS — Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday will have an appendectomy on Friday.  The team doesn’t know how long he’ll be sidelined.

Holliday was 3 for 4 in St. Louis’ season opener on Thursday.  He hit a go-ahead home run in the eighth inning of the 11-inning 5-3 loss to the San Diego Padres.
